Home of William J. Moore
Born in 1872 to freed slaves, William J. Moore lived in West Cape May and was the first teacher/principal for West Cape May’s Annex School, teaching Black students for 53 years until segregation ended. The History Committee of West Cape May submitted an application to the NJ Historical Commission to nominate his home to be on the NJ Black Heritage Trail. Stay tuned as we share more details on William J. Moore and his lasting legacy for future generations.
Historic Walking Tour
The History Committee of West Cape May will collaborate to create an updated Self-Guided Walking Tour of Historic West Cape May.
Historic District Signs
Through a grant in 2008, the History Committee of West Cape May installed Historic Signs at Wilbraham Park, West Cape May Elementary School, and Rea’s Farm. In 2025 these historic signs were replaced and a rededication ceremony was held at each site.

West Cape May Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony
The West Cape May Christmas Parade is a beloved annual tradition on the first Saturday of December sparking the start of the Holiday season. 2026 marks the 60th anniversary of the West Cape May Christmas Parade. West Cape May Strawberry Festival
The West Cape May Strawberry Festival is held annually on the first Saturday in June in Wilbraham Park but is currently not sponsored by the Borough of West Cape May.
